Christmas activities

Do you get the joke? lol
Do you think "Tió", the Three Kings or "Cagananer" need therapy? What would they say to the therapist?

Watch a brief history of Santa in this video. He speaks really really fast, but don't worry. Just try to understand what you can, you'll be surprised.

Are you a Santa's or a King's person? Who brings you presents? What did you get? Did you get what you wanted? What would happen if you didn't?
Watch some disappointed kids here
And one really angry kid that got a BOOK, and not a TOY. Santa, what were you thinking?!!

Do tongue twisters twist your tongue?

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

Any noise annoys an oyster but a noisy noise annoys an oyster more.

If a black bug bleeds black blood, what color blood does a blue bug bleed?

Of all the felt I ever felt,
I never felt a piece of felt
which felt as fine as that felt felt,
when first I felt that felt hat's felt.

West Side Story Project
Session 1
1. Ice breaker:
Boom Chicka Boom, this is a "repeat after me" song. Repeat the lines after the song leader sings them. Stand up and follow the actions in the parentheses for each verse...
Go Bananas, repeat each line and perform each movement with your hands and body.

 2. Introducing West Side Story:

West Side Story is a musical that takes “Romeo and Juliet” the drama by Shakespeare to New York’s West Side. The Italian rival families are changed by city gangs, but the story is pretty similar.
So we are going to talk about, belonging, love, rivalry, arguments, fights, etc.

A) I want to live in America song
They are talking about their life, comparing Puerto Rico to what they call America, which is the United States of America (USA).
Can we compare our life in Primary School to our life in Secondary School, maybe? Do we want to go back there?
Listen to the song:

B) Jet’s song.
We are going to work on a song that tell us about the story of the Jets, a gang in New York. They are fighting the Sharks, who are Puerto Rican. There are some issues raised here: racisim, territory, belonging, rivalry, etc.
Listen to the song:
This is the way the Jets and the Sharks fight:
And this is the party at the Gym, where Maria and Toni meet and trouble begins:

Tutoria 12/04/2012

West side story project (I)

The first two bits of West side story (very long intro, let's watch it from minute 6)
Now answer this questions:
Why do the Jets call the others "chick, chick, chick..."?
Who are the Sharks?
Does the fight in 5' remind you of anything?
Now, in your own "West Side Story", who are the cops?
Let's read the script:

Policeman: Come on, boys, huh? Hey, come on, huh?
Break it up, you punks...
How many times have l told you punks to cut this stuff out?

Jet:Why, if it ain't Lieutenant Schrank.

Jets: Top o' the day, Lieutenant Schrank.

Bernardo: And Officer Krupke...

Sharks: Top o' the day, Officer Krupke.

Policeman: I'll give you the top o' the head. Hey, you, get down.

Riff: But we're havin' such fun. We enjoy the playground.
See, it keeps us deprived children off of the foul city streets.

Policeman:Shut up.

Jets: Born like we was on the hot pavements.

Policeman: You wanna get your skull broke? Baby John, come here.
Come here!
All right. Now, which one of these Puerto Ricans bloodied you?

Jet: Well, sir--

Policeman: Which one?

Riff: Excuse me, sir. As a matter of fact, we've suspicion...
that the job was done by a cop.

Jets: Two cops. At the very least.

Policeman: Impossible.

Bernardo: In America, nothing is impossible.

Policeman: All right, wise guys. You listen to me...all of ya!
You hoodlums don't own these streets...
and I've had all the roughhouse I'm gonna put up with around here.
You wanna kill each other? Kill each other.
But you ain't gonna do it on my beat.
Are there any questions?

Bernardo: Yes, sir. Would you mind translating that into Spanish?

Policeman: Get your friends out of here, Bernardo...and stay out. Please...

Bernardo: Okay, Sharks, “vámonos”.

Policeman: Boy, oh, boy, as if this neighbourhood wasn't crummy enough.
Now, look, fellas. Fellas? Look, let's be reasonable. If l don't get a little law
and order around here...I'll get busted downto a traffic corner...
and your friend don't like traffic corners.
So that means you're gonna start makin' nice with the P.R.s from now on.
I said nice, get it? 'Cause if you don't...
and I catch any of you doin'any more brawlin' in my territory...
I'm gonna personally beat the living crud out of every one of you...
and see that you go to the can and rot there
Say good-bye to the nice boys, Krupke. (Good-bye, boys)

Now, write our own script for the conversation between the cops the Jets and the Sharks.

¿Qué has aprendido de tus fracasos?
